Competed two new canes

Post by stickmaker »

First is zebrawood on a paduak wood, The second is mahogany on a canarywood shank. Spar urathane finish. The Mahogany cane is for Veteran's project. It is going to a retried Coast Guard rescue pilot.

Very Nice!

The dark grain in the first one is impressive.

Hi wrmnfzy, They are connected with a 5" length o 5/16th althread. 2 1/2 inch into the shank and the handle. I first drill a 21/ 64th hole about 2 5/8th" in each. The 5/16 althread will thread its way into the 21/64th hole, giving a tight fit. I dry fit the two parts confirming a good fit. once they fit well I remove the Althread and using a epoxy I swob the hole in the shank and spread it on 1/2 of the althread and screw it down into the shank. Once it is seated I repeat the epoxy on the top of the allthread and in the hole in the bottom of the handle and screw the handle down tight to the shank and clamp it tell it dries with a pipeclamp. To keep the epoxy off the outside of the wood I rap the top 2 inches of the shank and the outer handle with painters tape.
