magna 4" jointer model 620-C manual
Hi folks - I've just begun acquiring vintage shopsmith machinery. I'm currently looking for a magna 4" jointer model 620-C owner's manual.
I've seen a model 620 manual on ebay. Where to turn next (pun intended)?
Happy woodworking.
Thanks for the help.

Re: magna 4" jointer model 620-C manual
Are you looking for an original Manual to match your Jointer or are you just needing a Manual to cover operations and parts for your Jointer?
If you want an original Manual you will have to find it for sale somewhere, watch eBay, but be warned many of the manuals for sale there are copies. Don't pay for a copy. If you are going to pay for one get an original Manual.
If you just want a Manual to cover operations and parts check under the Maintenance and Repair section for Shopsmith Large Format Drawings, Illustrations and More by Everett Davis. This will be one of the first three topics. In it you will find a wealth of information on the Shopsmith tools. Some are directly linked there and others are on “My Google Drive” with documents too large to be directly linked. Everett has become the Shopsmith historian by saving and restoring manuals and other documents. There you will find a PDF copy of the 1964 version of the 4" Jointer Manual which has been restored and covers the 620-C. It has the drawings showing the parts of the tool including the parts list. If replacement parts are needed you can refer to it and order replacements from Shopsmith on this website. There have been upgrades made since 1984 but they will fit your 620-C Jointer.
From 1958 when the jointer became the 620-C (AKA Item # 505681 in 1964) until 1984 the only changes made to the jointer was the logo on the cutter guard, what color it was painted and who made it.

Re: magna 4" jointer model 620-C manual
I should have mentioned before that a new manual from Shopsmith P/N 556076 (for $11.99) will be the current one. It will include these upgrades and changes -BuckeyeDennis said

Featherboard Blade Guard
Rear Blade Guard
Inner Pulley Guard
Dust Chute
New Cutter Head Assembly (larger diameter w/ different wedges)
Infeed Stop (cannot be added to existing Jointers - part of it is cast on to the Base/Outfeed Table)
These are not on the earlier 620-C Jointer, AKA 505681, unless it has been upgraded. All but the Infeed Stop can be added. All other upgrades and changes can be added or used as replacement parts to all earlier Jointers except the Dust Chute cannot be added to the Model 4E.

Russ,
How come you can't mount the dust chute on the E-4 jointer? Drilling and tapping I assume.

Re: magna 4" jointer model 620-C manual
There is no room on the casting where the Cutter Head assembly mounts for mounting holes for the dust chute. Even if there was the dust chute would interfere the Model 4E headrest mount.Dave asked

It is interesting that the holes used for mounting the Dust Chute are on all but the Model 4E Jointer long before the Dust Chute came out. Anyone using a Model 620 Jointer mounted on the Model 10 headrest bracket cannot use the Dust Chute either. Using a Model 620 or later Jointer on the Model 10 SPT adapter bracket from the Power Mount Adapter Kit does allow for the use of the Dust Chute.

Apparently they were added for a different purpose, but no surprise they were used since they existed.chapmanruss wrote:There is no room on the casting where the Cutter Head assembly mounts for mounting holes for the dust chute.
