Birdhouse #3

Post by john »

The barn style birdhouse is finished and I have attached pictures.

I have also attached a picture of the basic box used for all the recent postings. The box is about 6" wide x 5 1/8" high for front and back, and 5 1/4" wide x 5 1/2" high for the side walls. The different style tops simply go on top of the box and they measure 6" wide by about 3.5 " high, depending on the stlye.

I made a couple of changes that you can see in the photo. The tabs sticking up in the four corners are a solution I came up with when I found the plans called for the top front/back to be only 5.25"wide. The tops are designed to screw into the end of the side walls but since my tops were too short, I put in the tabs (they actually go right to the bottom) so I had something to screw into. I continued this in my other boxes as I felt it was a more solid way to do it. The other change is a piece of 1/4" screen I stapled to the inside front under the entry hole. I read somewhere that this helps the young to climb out.

I started working on a fourth house and was playing with differnt roof styles when my dear wife announced she would like another barn model. Interesting since she originally preferred more traditional styles. So the smaller pieces in the photo will be put aside for another day.

Hope you like what you see.

John

Very nice!

It must be 'in the air' since I just ordered some Barn Red milk-paint to have for an upcoming project.

The barn turned out really nice! Let us know if you get any birds to move in.
