Replacement motor

Post by iguanabob69 »

Hello all - I recently purchased a 1982 Shopsmith Mark V Model 500, but now I come to find out that the motor is burnt out. Do I have to use a Shopsmith replacement or can I go to a company like Grainger and buy a motor with the same specs?

Mark 5/V motors have unique features, I don't think you'll find one with the same specs from any generic supplier. The designed air flow and how the motor mounts to the motor pan are specific to the headstock design. Both new and used motors are readily available. Repair is possible. You might consider taking it to a local electric motor repair shop for evaluation.
