The 120V Pro Planer has a 90V DC feed motor. Looking at the label on the SS special Ad the 240 V motor is actually 240 V AC. No conversion there. Plus, I don't remember, but I think the RPM's are different. And it looks like the bolt up and out put shaft are different.

Very interesting how SS went with that. They could have much more easily used the same DC feed motor with a 240V planer motor. Strange! :confused:

My motor says 115v on it, so I'm skeptical, but please let us know if the motor works. I can't risk ordering it if it doesn't work. Called and emailed and haven't heard back either.

I have not heard back yet either.
520 now upgraded to Mark 7, 520 "shorty", 500 converted to a dedicated drill press.
2 - bandsaws, jig saw, belt sander, strip sander, 4" Jointer, planer, air compressor.
ClearVue dust collection system.

OK I got answer fromSS today:


No this motor will not work on planers that are powered by the Shopsmith
Unless you 240 volt motor in the Shopsmith
And have a 240-volt control box on the planer

I am glad I didn’t order it after all.
