Adhesive question

Post by wrmnfzy »

In a project for my wife I have to glue some plastic and ceramic figurines to wood. I have some one minute epoxy and some E6000 adhesive. Any thoughts to what would be best.

I have only limited experience with this but I recently used Titebond Polyurethane Liquid Glue. I want to tell you that I believe it will attach anything to anything. Mine was in a 4oz squeeze dispenser. Easy, clean and controlled application. Open time is long. Worked great for me.

I agree with Dusty. The Titebond Poly glue is fantastic and sticks to virtually anything, including glass. Buy it in the smallest size available as it will tend to harden in the bottle once opened (over a relatively short time span...)

I can not answer your question but have seen the display at the woodcraft store where they show the E6000 holding all sorts of objects to one another. If it works as well as it seems to on the display it should work for what you need.

I've been tempted to buy some to try but so far it hasn't happened. So if you do use it please let us know how well it worked for you. I know for me I hate to buy glue until I actually need it as most times it goes bad before I use it up. Just parted with several containers of hardened glue...... still in the bottle.

Well I used both on separate parts of the projects. Both have good and bad. The 1 minute epoxy I used (JB) worked and held great, problem was the quick set time I couldn’t do too much at one time as it would set too quickly but it did set quickly which was good for some of the figurines I was gluing as they would not have stood up by themselves and could not be clamped due to their shape. The E6000 worked well for the items that could stand by themselves since it needed 2 minutes to get tacky and 10 minutes to set and 24 hours to cure and 72 hours for final and best hardening. Held good but not quite as hard.

OK, I ended up using 5 minute epoxy. This was a project my wife wanted to do on account of something to do during the quarantine. We have Christmas Eve at our house for our extended family. She usually gives all the kids some money in some sort of container. She had some composite figurines left over and I had some poplar bed boards I had saved, 1”x4”. I re-sawed them and cut into rectangles. I then made a cube first gluing 5 Of the sides together and doing some initial sanding. Drilled holes in three sides, where money will eventually be put in and two holes in top for ribbon along with a recess to glue in the figurine then gave to my wife to paint and clear the inside. She then gave them back to me to glue on the bottom after she painted and clear coated the inside side. I then finish sanded and gave back to her for outside painting. I then got them back to glue the figurine and front decoration on. Then back to her for the ribbon to hang on tree. Damn, I’m long winded!🤪
