I ordered this to replace mine that was missing on my used purchase. I can send a pic of the documents that came with it when I get back home.
I am very impressed and would like to know how you found the updated (or upgraded) part despite Shopsmith's lookup system.

When you look it up under Service Parts the system says:
173 513418 * Item Not Found * 1 9,999.99

But lo and behold I can ignore all that and click the Buy button anyway, and it gives me an error. But if I go to my Cart there is the 523092 part for $4.95. I'm amazed. Yet dumbfounded.

I haven't tried lately but, in the past I found the SS parts system very unreliable. One time you can click on a part number in an exploded view and nothing happens. Do it again and you get the result you got and then click again and it works as expected if the part is available. Something is FUBAR with this portion tf the web site.

Shopsmith calls this, with the new PN, an upgraded version. When you get your part please add a reply to this thread and let us know what the difference is. I'm thinking it may be some form of thread locker, maybe a nylon insert in the threads. If that is the case I'm thinking I will Loc-Tite (blue) mine.

I remember being pissed off initially that the part I needed said the whole “$99999” thing...I found that if I looked at the exploded diagram view, found the REF #, than than kind of just cross references with the parts list and went from there.

I can’t seem to find the “installation” instructions it came with, but it was pretty straight forward and came with all the necessary washers.

A cut washer(s) can make it 1/16" longer.

I would not refer to it as a handle, but rather as a handle screw.
