Help finding parts for a Model ER

Hello,

A friend of mine recently came across a vintage Shopsmith and I'm trying to help him find some replacement parts. It appears to be a Model ER (S/N ER37156). He is in need of a headrest and base plate...essentially, the supports for the tubes/rails.

Also, based on the S/N any ideas when it was made?

Your friends Shopsmith Model 10ER and yes it is actually a 10ER not just ER was made at the end of 1950 or maybe January 1951 in the Eastern Plant. More information about that can be found at the link below.

As for getting a replacement for the Base and the Headrest they must be purchased used and can be found at online auction or sale sites. Due to the weight of these items if you can find them locally you can save a lot on shipping. Both the Base and Headrest for that era of Model 10ER would have the larger Base and the 4 hole mounting Headrest. You can use the later smaller Base and 2 hole mounting Headrest though with no problems other than it will not match the original ones.

When complete it should have all the parts like the one below.

I just looked on eBay and there are five people selling the Base and more selling the Headrest. All of the Bases come with the Arm assembled with the pins in place. Remember the Base is only the bottom plate that attaches to the bench and holds the Arm. The Way Tubes attach to the Arm and the complete assembly will have the Base, Arm, 2 Hinge Pins, Lock Knob and 4 set screws. If any of the sellers are near you (your friend) than I recommend contacting to see if local pickup is an option. If none of them are near you check sellers of other Model 10 parts as they will likely have a Base, just not advertised, since these are not commonly needing replacement. I looked at one of the Base assemblies and it is reasonably priced but shipping to me is $95.00, ouch!

If your friend needs help with anything to do with restoring the Shopsmith than feel free to ask questions here. John, who has already posted a comment and myself both own and have restored Model 10's along with many others here on the forum.
