10er quill removal

Post by Oldmarine6869 »

Trying to replace the spindle bearings on my "new" 10er. After watching the only youtube video I could find over and over, I still haven't gotten the quill out of the headstock! Any storybooks with pictures out there?

Remove the two nuts and washer from the depth stop rod.

Advance the quill lever till the quill comes out of the headstock.

Slowly turn the quill advance lever back till there is no tension. :)
Do not just let it snap back, bad things can happen.

Then loosen the two set screws on the stop rod collar and one on the small and remove them.

With the Quill assembly out of the Headstock see how freely the spindle turns inside the quill. If it turns smooth and easily the bearings are good, if not replace following Skip Campbell's video Ron posted. At this point check the bearings in the Drive Sleeve assembly. With the belt off see how easily the pulley turns with the drive sleeve. If it turns smoothly and easily the bearings are good, if not they will need to be replaced too.

P. S. Glad you were able to get the table assembled correctly.
