I recently received a free jig saw and when I removed the crank case cover (with saw horizontal), not only was there no oil, there was no oily residue. It was bone dry. Per Bill Mayo's advice, I bought a 16 oz. bottle of air compressor oil from Loew's for less than $3. The gasket was thin and brittle, so I bought a small roll of cork gasket material at Advance Auto and cut a new one. After a post about my progress, one of the guys here asked if I cut around the breather hole. I replied with what breather hole? So I laid the saw on its side again and added the cutout. It has been 4 or 5 weeks since and there is no hint of oil leakage (yet).

Re: Jig Saw Oil

I know this is an old post and miss Bill Mayo all over again. What I have been doing for a long time is use Permatex gasket maker from a tube purchased from auto parts store (I have seen it at Walmart also). It does not need to be high temp or anything special, just regular. I have never had this leak/drip/seep once I did this. I have seen it in gray and blue and black. It makes a nice gasket and seals great. Care needs to be taken to cover around thew holes for screws and specifically NOT use too much around the oil seep hole passage. Use enough to make a nice gasket but not enough that it squishes out all around because it will do same inside as well. The old cork gaskets just dry out over time and seep/drip.
Another tip for the old jigsaw. I cut blades from a 1/4" bandsaw blade that broke. It can cut just about anything needed. It cuts 2X material great.
Hope this helps.
