Yes The 2 1/4" sanding drum has not changed (except the set screw size) since the first ones made for the 10E.

Yes, the current Shopsmith Sanding Sleeves still fit the original Sanding Drum. The Sanding Drum hasn't changed much over the years. The first was a machined Aluminum Sanding Drum followed by the cast aluminum we still buy today. The only change to the cast aluminum Sanding Drum was a change in the set screw size. Also the rubber sleeve can be replaced if old and brittle. It is part number 503009. The picture below is the three versions of the Drum Sander.

I figured there was probably something else besides the set screw. This is the first time I have ever seen the machined aluminum one. They must not have been made for very long.

I do not know how long the machined aluminum Drum Sander was made before being replaced by the cast aluminum one. The following is one of the posts from my thread Shopsmith Model 10’s what when and where.

One of the problems identifying when accessories or changes came out is with the pictures that accompany the descriptions in catalogs. An example can be seen in the May 1, 1949 4-page Shopsmith Accessories catalog. On page 1 it has a listing for the Miter Gauge Extension mounted on the later Miter Gauge. Page 2 has the Front Table Extension with the early Miter Gauge on it. Page 4 has the Miter Gauge Stop Rod mounted on the early Miter Gauge. From this example I can only guess that the later Miter Gauge was already being supplied with new Shopsmiths but older pictures were still being used in the catalog. This is an issue that had occurred for many years in the catalogs and something I have noted before. Another example would be the Drum Sander which still showed the original machined Aluminum version through the 0151 Accessory Catalog. After that the “picture” is too small to tell if it is the cast aluminum version for sure until the 1954 Accessory Catalog. The machined aluminum Drum Sander is less common which leads me to believe they were not produced as long as the Model 10 cast aluminum version was. The cast aluminum Drum Sander changed at the end of 1953 from a ¼” set screw to the current 5/16” set screw. All possible set screws in accessories for the Shopsmith tools changed in late 1953 to set screws using a 5/32” Allen Wrench. This was in anticipation of the introduction of the Mark 5 and having only 1 tool, the 5/32” Allen Wrench needed for changeovers. There were some exceptions to the set screw size and still are today.

As I said in the above post it is hard to tell sometimes from catalogs when changes occurred. I have 2 of the machined ones and they are not a rare as the Lower Belt Guard or the Lower Saw Blade Guard.
