I started setting up my 1st Shopsmith up to rip a PVC board in to 1” stripes. I decided to use my new Infeed/Outfeed Extension Table Brackets to do this, along with the second fence from the other Shopsmith. I was using four of my floating tables with the telescope legs in between the floating tables, now realizing that that not going to work on the infeed side with the second fence.

I was thinking I was going to take the main table off the second Shopsmith but I came up with using one of the other table tubes and putting two telescope legs on the outer side’s.

Place a board against the fence(s) to allow positioning the two fences to the right of the blade by the width of the board + 1".

Then register the workpiece(pvc) against the board as a secondary fence.

Secure the board to the fences using double sticky tape liberally.

Never mind, I like your second approach better.

That kind of defeats using the feather boards to hold down against the fence. I guess I need to make that board with a slot for them and if I’m going that far I might as well put T-nuts on it as well. It’s a little more than I was looking to do setting up. But then I have it for down the road if I do it again I guess.

I'm probably missing something, but couldn't you just move the fences to the left hand side of the blade?

I also like your second setup. Consider doing the same on the outfeed depending on where the gap between the floating tables lines up.

Shopsmith offers top-mounted rip fence featherboards that would allow use of a fence extension providing it is not to tall: https://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cat ... rboard.htm I used these before switching to JessEm stock guides and liked them. Primary advantages are compatibility with thicker stock and you have some flexibility in positioning them in/out relative to the fence face. (Neither of which seems important for your current operation.)

Your table extension brackets look new. The screws that mount the brackets in my kit were very short, about 0.482 rather than something near 0.625. A replacement set was the same. I'm curious to know if yours were correct. I stripped out one hole due to the short screws.

I thought that was one of the major advantages of the SS. The ability to adjust the tool to meet any challenges of the work required just needs a good imagination and additional parts or jigs.
