Carriage lock not locking

Post by psikes »

My previous post got hijacked so I will try again. I had posted about the carriage lock not working properly with my lathe rest. After carefully scrutinizing the blown up diagram I saw where the previous owner had misplaced the washer (#171) that went between the handle and the locking mechanism. I have a temporary fix in there now with a too large washer. Can anyone tell me if this is a square hole washer or will a standard half inch fender washer work okay?

Thanks, Phil
