New Shopsmither in Canada

Post by CanadianShopSmith »

Hello everyone!

I am Kale, a 30 year old in Ontario Canada. I am returning to wood working after many years away. My best moments of high school were when I was covered in wood shavings and saw dust in shop class.

I have just purchased a used Mark V 510 with belt sander and band saw attachments. I am absolutely elated to join the community and to start making sawdust again.

I would love to hear from other Canadian ShopSmith owners as it seems to be a small community here and support seems to be limited.

Cheers,

-Kale

Hey Kale, welcome to the community.

I'm not Canadian, but I have found a lot of help here. So good luck with your Mark V and have fun!

Welcome to the Shopsmith forum Kale. Sorry I’m not a Canadian either.

Good luck with your Shopsmith

Welcome to Shopsmith, and the forum!

Lots of detractors up here, but the Shopsmith is a great machine especially if if you have a small shop and the patience to learn the set-ups.

I bought mine around 1993 when Shopsmith had stores in Canada and a lot of support if you lived near one. Sadly those days are long gone so support is almost non existent but I have found the folks at All-in-One Tools pretty good when needed.

Good luck with your return to making sawdust.

Welcome Kale. You will find many helpful people and a wealth of information here.

I am retired US Air Force and was stationed at CFB Bagotville in Chicoutimi Quebec from 1980 to 1984. That was one of the best assignments I had.

Thank you everyone for such a warm welcome!

I have been in contact with All In One Tools out of Oakville. They may have good service but from my experience so far it is hard to get the information you need. Their website is painfully out of date (circa 2006) and I haven't had much success getting them on the phone. email at allin1wood@bellnet.ca seems to be the best communication method.

It is not easy to browse prices with All In One but they have quoted me on some items. I'll provide the information for anyone else that might be interested. The prices are in Canadian.

556176 - Power Pro Headstock – $3403.50 ordered from US when required
555608 - 5/8 Arbor $46.99 usually have but not in stock at the moment
555975 – Lift assist $397.50 ordered from US when required
556224 – Caster upgrade 3” wheels – $68.95 in stock or 556247 Retractable caster assembly $213.99 in stock

Cheers,

Welcome. I just joined the forum but have owned a 510 for over 20 years. I live in Ontario and just finished the DIY PowerPro upgrade. I'm looking forward to making even more dust while upgrading cabinetry and making some more furniture.
