It appears that is a bent retaining clip as you show in your second photo. I suspect that the bent one was left in the headstock from a previous repair.

Mystery solved! Photos make things easier!!!!

A PO put that mangled clip in the motor pan.

Now it is not clear in your current clip picture if the roll pin that is also supposed to be in the button bearing nubbin is there. the ends of the clip go into the ends of the roll pin and the roll pin resides it the hole in the bearing nubbin.

JPG: Sorry having to ask this but, what do u mean by a PO?

To me PO means "purchase order" or "post office". Neither makes sense in this context.

And here are a couple of pictures to help explain what JPG was saying about the roll pin.

PO has been explained ... FYI in reverse (OP) it is Original Poster.

And to add more than one picture, just repeat the procedure. Up to 10 may be included, each one subject to same size limitations.
