I looked at the set and it doesn't say it's made up of their regular bits or if this is a "special" set. I don't own it so I have no idea. The catalog I get has the same set for the same price with free bearing lube for $189.95... so almost the same deal just minus one of the free items. (part #8373 and no mention of an ending date).

I really wish they were a little more clear if these are the same bits you get if you order the regular bits one at a time. I know that they are closed right now but a call might just clear this up.

I know one time I got a few bits on clearance from another online place, they were DeWalt bits so I figured how could I go wrong. All the bits were of a short shank type??? What was up with that?? Anyway they still work but I wish I had know that they were like that before I purchased them.

We must not be looking at the same offer. Here is the one that came up when I clicked on the link. I must have the wrong one!

The difference as I mentioned is what you get as extras and when it ends:
SAVE $29.90! Includes FREE Router Collet Extension plus FREE Bearing Lube.
Offer Expires December 31, 2008

The regular catalog has it for the same price and with free bearing lube... but you don't get the "router collet extension". A $$ value if you need or want it then you have to order soon. If you don't care about that "extra" then you have more time.

Let me add my two cents. I don't own any MLCS bits but I did buy a set from Woodline a few years back for about the same price. Here is what I found.

If I'm doing something that I want to try various profiles out I will use them. If the project is something less the furniture grade I will use them, the assortment comes in handy when you need something to do this profile at the spur of the moment etc.

Here is the other lesson I learned, if I doing something furniture grade or something for someone else I will go buy the bit I need from Infinity. I have also found out that if the cut is rough, or I'm experiencing tear out to stop using them and go to a good bit.

Let me say I have frustrated myself more than once using these bits only to find out what I wanted to do was easy as spreading soft butter when I used a better bit.

I have never had a failure nor were the bits dull or even quick to dull. But the bit geometery is not always the best for the job as hand. They have basically become my try and see bits. I try them to see if I like the profile/results then I go buy a inifinity bit that matches.

Just my experience.

Just a quick word about the collet extensions. I have both of them and they do as they say but most routers and operations do not need them. I got them for some special projects I was working on that required me to have the router mounted on thick material... they work but should only be used when you have no other way of doing the project. You have just moved the bit 2-1/4" inches farther out on the shaft of the router so run-out gets just that much worse and at 20,000 RPM or more... well just think about it.

I would say most people will not need this item.

This of course depends on your router

Yah and the extra mass out there complicates the balance. They also greatly increase side thrust on router bearings. Light feed would be prudent if using them.:)

I clicked on the wrong quote button. I meant to "quote" ED!
