The yellow cord has about 3" of extra length so no knots are going to work in this case.
If I were in the market for a new cord I think this is the route I would go for this application:

I have another version of these cord holders but it is longer and designed for connecting outdoor extension cables that will be exposed to weather. Not for submersion but works well for my Christmas cords.

I don't have 12Ga cords for that so I don't know if they fit that big a cord.
