Shorten the way tubes today,

Post by stickmaker »

For the last year I have been contemplating cutting my way tubes. Today I shortened them by 14”. I have never used the full length of the lathe or saw table. With the work I do I just do not need the extra length and it will allow me to rearrange the shop giving me more efficient use of the space and tools in my 12x 16 shop. I was nevus about doing it with my reciprocating saw. But fallowing the advice I learn here I attached hose clamps at the length to be cut and they worked very well as a guide giving me a good square cut and the stand slid right back on. Now I am wondering what to do the four 14” lengths of way tubs, other than the trash. I thank you all for sharing and your advice.

If you have no use for them, I will pay postage to ship them.

You could bide your time and get the rest of the parts from eBay to make a dedicated drill press. Of course given your shop size that may negate the reason you cut them in the first place.

I have the exact same cutoffs. Now I don't throw away anything that 'might' become useful. I use mine not frequently but often enough that I am thankful I have them. The last time they were taken out of hiding was to roll a large, heavy box up the driveway and into the garage (aka shop). The box contained one of my Husky 52" Workbenches.
