Well garys, we have some juniper trees that get as big as 3" in diameter, and Mountain Mahogany maybe 4".
The one thing we have here is lots of sage brush. Kind of hard to think of a project for it.
Our nearest hardwood supplier is Salt Lake 4 hours plus from my house.

When my wife and I were at a family reunion in North Dakota, I don't recall many trees there either.

You have sand, we have grass. Neither one is useful for woodworking. But, I do have an awesome hardwood dealer about a mile from my house. He keeps a large stock of every domestic hardwood, and many of the stuff from the rest of the world too. If he doesn't have what I want, he orders it and because he has truckloads coming in regularly, he doesn't kill me with shipping costs.
If it wasn't for that local supplier, I'd be trying to build my projects out of sod, and that wouldn't work.
I suggest doing a thorough search of your area. You might have a local supplier too.

Franklin didn't have much the last time I looked, not even as much as Home Depot, its been a while (years) since I've been there. I've never even heard of Hughes Lumber, or Taft Ave. I'll check it out

Yeah, Franklin looked like more of a building supplier, so probably more construction grade lumber, moldings, trim, windows, doors, etc. Yeah, I don't know if Hughes Lumber is any good, but found them with a Google search. I just did a search for "lumber near Elko, NV" which is what I tried when I searched near me trying to find more choices. Best of luck on your search. Also, sometimes the smaller lumber guys, particularly the sawmill ones, don't have big websites, but often you can find them searching on Facebook, etc. Might be another place to look to find lumber near you.

Hope you have a great holiday as well. I've got to get back to my famous Green Chile Pork that I started cooking this morning...a fitting dish for living out here in the desert Southwest with all of this sand and mesquite.
