Mark V Mounted Planer Threaded Insert in Cover

Post by RFGuy »

Using my Mark V mounted planer again today and this threaded insert caught my eye. Just wondering if anyone knows what this threaded insert in the cover is actually for (circled in red below)? I checked the parts diagram, but nothing is listed for it. Also, I have never seen any accessory that might connect to this threaded insert. Brass inserts aren't exactly cheap, so wondering if there is an accessory that I never knew about or if Shopsmith might have planned something for it, but never did. Thoughts?

If you don't have dust collection on the planer the SS logo is rotated 180º to cover the hole. Dust collection was an option at first as I remember. Don't know about now.

Ahhh. Thanks John. I have always had the dust collection chute attached so there is a 2-1/2" dust port in the way of rotating the logo, but that makes sense now. Never would have even considered running it without dust collection.
