In the shop I make measurements of one surface or edge to another.

I shim the legs of my machines to get them level. They can't always stay in one place, I have moved them and not shimmed if they were close to level, but if they're staying in one spot for long I'll shim them up and tell my self once again I should get some leveling feet to mount on the legs.

According to my calculations, a floor that is pitched .3 degrees will rise 1 1/2" over 24'. Pretty noticible.

IIRC the sloped part of my garage (front 18') is 1 inch per 4 feet. Beyond that it is all, slopped and non-slopped, smooth enough that shimming the legs is not necessary.
