mickyd here.  Gifted my ER10 to a friend. He needs admin registration help

Post by mickyd »

Hey gang!  Been ages since I've been on the forum.  Felt nice looking around seeing familiar names.

I gifted my ER10 to a friend who is a newbie woodworker.  You'll see him on the forum (user name 'joncast') as soon as he can resolve his registration problem.  I told him to contact Shopsmith customer service to see if they can help track down admin.

I had to attach before and after pics of my ER10 that's now his.  Boy I enjoyed that restoration!!!  viewtopic.php?t=3503

I'd love to hear from my old peeps.  Saw many user names still active.

I remember reading that restoration thread. Even though I have a 520 in excellent condition, it was an excellent read and I learned a lot from it.

What a nice thing to do. I know you influenced my rebuild organically.

I hope the new owner enjoys it!

Seems that user name is registered as of June 2 and 20 seconds into that new day. Any idea what problems he is seeing?

He said he did not receive the activation response e-mail.

He also said "I began looking around in the Community forum and found that, since March, members have been talking about their not seeing new members joining the forum, and they were wondering what was happening. Someone said that there were some changes made to eliminate spammers (those guys screw everything up, don’t they), but it appears that while they may have stopped the spammers, they also have prevented getting new members. That thread can be found at this link: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=24892."

Many thanks to my friend Mickyd for gifting me this fine piece of American machinery, and in such incredible shape. And in response to rjent, yes, I am thoroughly enjoying it. Still have a lot to learn about it so I can make it work for me, but today I worked out the process to accurately rabbet a couple of short 2x4s for a bench top frame. Being a novice woodworker, the setup took me a little time, but after I mistakenly mitered the end of one of those boards the wrong way, I was able to cut a new board and rabbet it in short order. Being able to quickly recover using this new machine made me incredibly happy! Loving life!!!

Thanks again Mike! Like I told you the other day, I owe you. I know you said you owe me for getting it out of your garage, but the work you put into this thing, coupled with all the write up about it in this forum, is invaluable. At least let us take you and Claire out for some BBQ!

Marc,

Nice to see it make sawdust. :D

I am curious as to why there is a carriage bolt screwed into the arm as shown in the red circle below. It's not a normal item to have there. There is also a spot on the carriage that looks like it has been hitting the head of the carriage bolt.

That chapmanruss, that I think mickyd put that carriage bolt there to keep from accidentally bending the table lift screw. What looks like a spot where the bolt would hit is actually a little rubber pad to keep from chipping the paint. There’s a matching carriage bolt on the other side of the carriage, but for some reason Mike decided not to put a rubber pad on the headstock, so it does hit the paint. That carriage bolt is perfectly aligned for the saw blade, when using the stock arbor. I think I’m going to put a spot of felt there to protect Mike’s nice paint job.
