The vBook video would not play. After waiting quite awhile I got something (an icon) that looked like a broken reel of movie tape. I was trying to view it on my computer.iclark wrote:could you please expand on that last part?

I was able to view everything on the link that Nick provided and was quite impressed with the difference between the sawdust session and the video on this first V Book DVD. I use QuickTime Video player and had no problem watching the sample which was 10 minutes long. It did take about 5 minutes from the time I clicked on the video before it opened up but I suspect that depends on how much activity is going on in the internet and also depending on what type of internet one has. I have DSL and was experiencing signal coming and going due to weather. This wouldn't be an issue on the actual DVD. I watched it in full screen mode and the picture quality was excellent and there were no audio problems like the ones experienced in the sawdust sessions. I felt that having these V Books on DVD's will make for a good reference library to refer back to and for showing someone new to SS what the possibilities are. I went ahead and ordered the first V Book DVD.

Markfive, we still need some more info to diagnose your problem and tell if it's something specific to your computer or something I should fix so that it doesn't happen to other viewers. Please answer these questions, if you would:
1. Will the videos play in a DVD player attached to a television?
2. Can you view the regular DVD files (ISO) on your computer?
3. Do the HTML files load? Do you see a page that asks whether you want to download the podcasts or continue to the VBook when you open the DVD in your computer?
4. Does your computer have a DVD drive? If so, how old is it?
5. What browser are you using to view the files?
6. What video player are you using with your browser? (You should have Quicktime 7.5 or later.)
7. Have you set your browser to allow dynamic HTML/Active X/javascript?
I have tested the VBooks on Internet Explorer 7 and 8, Firefox 2, and Safari 3, on both PC and Apple platforms and all with the latest version of Quicktime. It performs best in IE and Safari; it seemed to run slower in Firefox but it was still acceptable. If you can bring up both the ISO and HTML (DVD video and web pages) on your computer, I'd take the disc to someone else with a computer and see if he/she can play the VBook videos. If they can, you probably need to (1) upgrade your software or (2) change the browser settings.
Also, it's fairly easy to find the MP4 video files in the "SSVB-SS101" folder. The Table alignment vid, for example, is in SSVB-SS101/SS101/Table_Alignment_files/. Open your Quicktime player and load one of the videos. If you can play the MP4 videos by accessing them directly in this manner, but you cannot view them in the HTML "virtual classroom" pages, then you need to review your browser settings for DHTML/Active X/javascript.
With all good wishes,

I apologize. I was not viewing a DVD. I was attempting to view the link that was given on the website.
Take a look at the "Aligning the Mark V Table" VBook presentation at http://www.shopsmithacademy.com/VBoo..._Alignment.htm and compare that to the online presentation at http://www.shopsmithacademy.com/SS_A..._Alignment.htm .

I suspect they are working on them. The second of the two links has worked for a long time now. I don't believe I have ever tried the first of the two.

I had the same problem. I needed quicktime, which I downloaded and installed. I also had the broken film strip. I closed that window, then reopened and then it worked.

Hi Tim,
The post you referenced doesn't have good links, corruption of what looks like a link......
Go back to post 15[Edit: so sorry make that 16] where Nick posted them, they both work from there, well at least for me.
(they didn't work from the post you quoted)

Actually, it was post #16, but other than that, Ed is correct -- the original links work; the copied links do not. You cannot always copy a link from post to post in this Forum. The forum software often shortens the original link to conserve space; when you try to copy the link, there are missing characters.
And here's one more tip for people who post links: You cannot put a period after a link. The software will read the period as part of the URL address, then sit and sulk because it doesn't have an "htm" or "pdf" or something behind it. If you must place a period after a link to end the sentence, type a space and then a period.
Here are three working links so you don't have to backtrack:

VBook Table Alignment Classroom: http://www.shopsmithacademy.com/VBook/S ... gnment.htm

With all good wishes,
