You had very few questions posted on the Shopsmith 18" Jigsaw videos on using files and abrasives, so we make quick work of those and I share a little bit of background on the sister who is allowing me to invade her basement while we are searching for a new home.

Shop-built Shopsmith Speed Reducer

That's right, it's easy to make your own speed reducer for powering your Shopsmith bandsaw, jigsaw or scroll saw at a slower speed than normal for use with metals, plastic, and even stone. I look forward to addressing your questions, comments, and cheap-shots in the mid-week follow-up, so be sure to leave a comment! Scott

Re: My Growth Rings with Scott Markwood
While this was a quick build and it's handy to have a speed reducer around, I'm still thinking that a SS-style reducer would be nice to have. I'm wondering who uses theirs for turning vs drilling vs powering SPTs? Scott

I only got into turning about a year ago, even though I have been woodworking for 30+ years. I bought the speed reducer and have used it for a few bowls so far. Honestly, I couldn't see going through the trouble to mount & align it for drill press or SPT's. I tolerate it for woodturning since I don't have a PowerPro. I will continue to use mine for bowl turning, but that is probably it. By the way, I enjoyed your latest video where you built a speed reducer...

Scott,
If you're looking for a speed reducer ( or an increased for that matter), I have both I no longer need since I've upgraded to a PowerPro. If interested, send me a pm via this forum.

Liking the details on the Shopsmith speed reducer. Great info there, and It answers a big question I had about the belt tensioning. Even with my PowerPro it would be fun to reduce down to metal milling and turning speeds. I have examples of all the speed controls now, the 10ER speed changer, conventional speed dial, power station and PowerPro, plus now the variable speed drive on a Yuba RAS. The variable speed of Shopsmiths is a huge feature for me because there's an ideal speed for every operation and I like to find that and take advantage of it. Great video to watch if you like this subject.
