Nope. I still have problems and I am not surprised. I am still running Windows 2000 and IE. I worked and worked to finally get the Sawdust Sessions and all the related goodies to work. Now it looks like I have to fine tune my installation of Quicktime.

Here is what I get when I attempt to view the vBook Alignment Session.

Appears for awhile during which time it appears that something is being downloaded; then:

This situation occurs only after a rather long wait with the other image showing.

Dusty, I was having the same problem. I downloaded the latest version of Quicktime, installed it and solved my problem.

well, looks like I'll be using my 20% order discount to order a 555884 Shopsmith Dial Indicator tomorrow. SS can chalk up another sale to Nick and his web work for an item that I would otherwise not have noticed existed.

I had not bothered to get the Vbook demo page working before since SS didn't seem to be selling them. I will definitely be picking up a set. wouldn't it be wonderful if SS could offer us the DVDs in the "Apologies from Shopsmith" email instead of the CDs?

a caution about Apple and Quicktime: if you pay Apple the money to upgrade to the Pro version, you are only paying for that particular numeric version of Quicktime. in other words, if you pay to upgrade to Quicktime Pro 7, then you do not get an upgrade to Quicktime Pro 8 unless you buy it again. so you are using your browser with Quicktime Pro 7 and you get a notice that there is a newer version of quicktime available and it offers to install it for you. if you say yes, then you have quicktime 8 on your computer and your quicktime pro 7 has been turned off permanently. this happened to one of my former bosses. after a couple of weeks of arguing with Apple by email, they eventually helped him uninstall the "upgrade" and go back to the pro version he had paid for. bottom line: Apple is not SS and you can not keep an older Apple program running when you install a new one in the shop.

in case the SS webmaster is listening, using firefox2 with NoScript, I had to authorize the SS site to run popups (I already have SS specified as a trusted site in NoScript). then I had to click on doing a manual install of an anonymous plug-in. there are very few websites that I would have clicked on that install button without knowing the source and name of the plug-in. I felt much better when I found myself on the Apple website. I installed the current version of quicktime and my next try of the Vbook demo worked. I do not recall if I had to close the browser or just the tab to get the plug-in to kick in.

Folks, those of you who have trouble with streaming MP4 files may be able to get some help with your Quicktime Plug-In here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/troubleshooting/ .

You may also want to check the configuration of your Quicktime installation. Here's Apple's standard instructions:

Configuring QuickTime
1. Open the QuickTime Player.
2. At the top of the QuickTime window, select the Edit menu, select Preferences, and then select QuickTime Preferences.... The QuickTime Preferences window appears.
3. In the QuickTime Preferences window, select the Browser tab, and then click MIME Settings.... The MIME Types window opens.
4. In the MIME Types window, you can specify the media formats you want QuickTime to play in Firefox. These settings apply only to online files; they do not apply to files opened through your operating system.
Suggested MIME Types
Audio

• AIFF audio
• uLaw/AU audio
• MIDI
• WAVE audio
MPEG
• MPEG media
• MPEG audio
• MPEG-4 media
MP3
• MP3 audio

It is particularly important that you check "MPEG Audio" and "MPEG-4 media" if you want to view and listen to the VBook vids.

With all good wishes,

I have not been as successful and probably will not be until I upgrade this computer. I am running Quick Time Player 6.5 and can not upgrade beyond that with Windows 2000.

Check out the online catalog. It says the price includes shipping and handling, but if you order from the email special you are charged shipping.
