I had a lot of problems installing my DC-6000 the first couple times. I no longer have the upper body strengthto do this sort of work. I worked precariously on top of the dust collector in the beginning.
Then I got a bit smarter.
I am able to sit on my roll around stool while manhandling the DC assembly with no strain. I set it uo in position and gravity slides it into place.' The last two installs were done without the 4" coupler attached to the Fan Housing (as the instructions read). Instead, I attached the coupler to the Manifold and installed it last. I believe I have abetter seal between the coupler and the manifold without loosing anything between the coupler and the fan housing.
I discarded all of the gasket materials used initially and bought a denser foam from Ace Hardware.
I dropped and broke my test fan so I am currently unable to evaluate air flow; thus. I am done with this task for a while.

Re: How to Install a Dust Collector Without Assistance
Necessity certainly was part of the equations here. I can no longer man handling that sort of weight and doing this made the task almost easy. Before I was done I put the Motor Housing and Fan Housing Assembly into and out of the Main Housing at least six times. That would not have happened without incident without this crutch.
