Refurbishing a MkV 510

Re: Refurbishing a MkV 510
The evaporust is doing its thing. The staining getting better. While those were soaking, I started on the base parts. The legs were beyond saving, but I scored a set on eBay. The other pieces were corroded, but they cleaned up ok and I hit them with a couple of coats of hammer tone Rustoleum. In a week or so I should have the base back together, then I’ll start on the headstock

I have to ask, "Where was that machine stored to get it rusted like that?" I'm running a 1983 MarkV that has been stored in my shop all its life and still has no rust on it. Temperatures in my original shop ranged from 100 degrees in Summer to 0 degrees in Winter and that didn't cause rust.

It was in an un air conditioned CBS garage/workshop in South Florida. My dad suffered a stroke in 1989, ending his woodworking activity. He passed in 93, so it sat in my shed down there until I retired and moved last year.

Aah Florida. One of the rust buckets of the world with its salt water.

Starting to reassemble the base. First the caster assemblies and the replacement legs I scored on eBay, the old ones were toast
