Motor lacks power

Motor question! I have acquired a 1984 mark v with the Emerson 1 1/8 hp motor wired to 240v. The motor turns on and runs fine with no attachments installed on it (speed goes up and dow when speed dial is turned). I’ve tried attaching the band saw and belt sander and the motor will not turn them (motor turns on but just hums). I was able to turn both attachments Freely. The sheaves move freely and have been oiled, The belts are good and have good tension. I’ve pulled the motor removed the internal capacitor and had it checked (it’s fine). I inspected inside The motor and it appears to be clean and free of dust or any burn marks and turns freely with no grinding. I can stop the motor by hand with the 12” sanding disc installed and running at slowest speed. Just looking for Any suggestions to help resolve the issue before dumping $500.00 on a new motor. Thanks.

Tell us HOW you got it to run on 240V.

This is how it was set up when I received it. Changed the plug to match the plug in my shop.

I did forget to mention when the speed dial is turned to O or greater it slows down and stops (the motor) the belts are not slipping.

Was the motor originally manufactured as a 240V motor?

Did you end up connecting a 240V motor to 120V? That would halve the power of the motor.

Not sure how to attach images but the motor plate is stamped with 240 v.

What plug did it originally have, and what is the receptacle in your shop?

I think Ed may have nailed it!

FWIW low torque will cause it to stall at higher speed control settings.

The plug that came with it (not the original plug that came with it from the factory) was a 4 prong and that is what I have just a different style.

What did you change? Did you change just the plug at the end of the power cord or did you wire in a new power cord?
