I couldn't see putting this in the bargain section
On Ebay there is a vintage, rare, new in the box belt sander, only 1599.00 (already marked down from 1999.00)
I looked at it, put it on my watchlist couple of hours ago, and just got a email from the seller with a discount offer. It can be mine for 1280.00
I am torn, what to do? Buy two new ones from the mothership or go with this...

I really do regret selling my belt sander more than 10 years ago now that I have seen videos on rebuilding.

I think that is the same seller that had another SPT (band saw or jointer) listed for the same ridiculous type of price. I queried him and asked if he new that a brand new exactly the same item from SS was 1/3 the price. He replied with yes but this one is rare since it was made in 1981.

I am bummed since my 1977 Belt Sander must not be rare.

I have one of those vintage 1981 sanders and it works well. Mine is used so it isn't rare anymore.

If you scroll through the list of items that he (nevran) posts on ebay you'll see many, many items that appear to be "grossly over priced". If these items actually sell at that price - are they really "over priced"?

I put nevran (his belt sander offer) on my watchlist too. I'm curious. Maybe I'll start clearing my shop of "vintage tools". I have many. Might be better than gold or silver.

Nevran: 4800+ current listings, there is no obvious pattern or specialty. Everything I saw is "on sale." They sell a lot, though I don't see any recent sales of SS stuff. I have a similar belt sander, except that it is extensively used. Worth, I'd say maybe $100 - 150 with the 1-1/4" (vintage) dust collection and (vintage) crowned drive hub. Don't think I'd pay more than $50 more for new or pristine, I don't have a museum. I would pay a bit more for one that includes those upgrades, the later standard. I'm sure it has some additional value to the right buyer. For its real value, just try auctioning it with no reserve or minimum and let the market decide...
