Tax Refund

That socks. I am still waiting for 2020 tax return to be processed. They have processed my payment though.

I guess I am very naive about this. It has been a while since we have owed federal tax. I always owe state. I send a check and it clears the bank and I am done. I have no idea if any data base shows they have or have not "processed" my return. I don't care. They accepted my check so the taxes are paid.

How do you check if your return has been "processed"? As I said above our CPA files the return electronically and sends me an email that it was filed and the IRS has accepted it. That is all I care about.

They accepted my check too but the IRS.GOV website still has my return "in process". It has not yet been accepted. In fact, I received a letter about two months ago from the IRS office saying that my return had not been received but if I had already filed please send them a copy of all supporting documents. That was done the very same day; returned via registered mail. No green card back on that either.

Now I am ready to file my 2021 taxes but I am holding it for awhile.

Wow! That is interesting maybe they are getting ready to deport you. Just looking for a country that will take you. . Seriously I never heard of such a thing. They cashed your check but say they never got your return or if they did they lost it but will not say it in that many words.

So the moral to all this is file late and hope they get overwhelmed with late returns?

A side note, my state dept of revenue just sent me a notice that my 2017 state return did not match my 2017 federal return (caused by an inadvertent error)Apparently the IRS is making historical info available to the states. So KY dept of revenue has some folks with not enough to do!

Why do you conclude that. Do you not include a copy of. Your federal 1040 A supporting documentation to your state return. The question I would ask is why four years later.

OK,, sending them a copy of your TAX RETURN is different than just sending them supporting documents.

A simple solution to preclude this in the future, pay a reputable tax person to do your taxes. Yes it will cost a few dollars but they will file electronically and will guarantee their work. If you have a simple return it should not cost that much and the fee is tax deductible the next year. If the IRS has a question, your tax preparer will sort it out.

We had a problem with our California tax return a few years ago. We have to file in California because we have rental properties there. Don't owe but still have to file. We got a letter a few years back that we had not filed our tax form. Took it to our CPA and he took care of it. Actually all I did was call him and tell him about the letter. Case closed.

Different strokes for different folks for different reasons.

I prefer to do my own. It typically takes three of four hours to prepare my taxes. I use TurboTax. It's a family thing. My grandson works for Intuit.

2021 is all ready to file but I am going to wait awhile to see what happens to 2020.

I have no choice but to let them work at their own pace. I sent in my return in Feb, and they can get to it whenever they find time. I think I got my refund in June last year. That works for me if they do the same this year.
Besides, if they delay long enough, they have to pay me interest. Last year I got around $2.00 interest. Now I can use that to take a trip around the world.
