Johnson's Paste Wax

I was just browsing through the Spring Sales Items and came across a couple items that sort of surprised me.

Is the recommended wax for items like the Shopsmith table tops no longer Johnson's Wax? The catalog lists Trewax and Minwax but no Johnson's.

The Trewax is not recommended for on the equipment only the projects.

Has been a couple years now that Shopsmith has been recommending Minwax.. Must have closed there advertising contract with Johnson Wax products.. Myself, I prefer Johnson's Wax as it is firmer and not as mooshie feeling.

I think they all will provide the same protection to tool surfaces (filling pours) to repell moisture.

Does Johnson's still make paste wax?

I looked high and low around here and in stores just south of the border but couldn't find any. Since all the supermarkets seem to carry only liquid waxes, I figured there is no market for paste wax.

I finally settled for Minwax in the paint dept. of a big box store at, I'm sure a higher price and like others, prefer the feel of Johnsons.

I picked up some Johnson's a month ago at a "Ace Hardware" store. I personally prefer to use "SlipIt" on my machinery where I need a slick surface.

Easy to find but like most of us fools we fail to spell it correctly... It's not Johnson's Paste Wax but rather Johnson Paste Wax.

Boy! we've talked about wax often! This from last year: I found Johnson's Past Wax at two different prices at Lowe's - same day - same store! This is from a post dated 7-03-2008.

"Today, I went to Lowe's. Preferred over HD, at least in this house. Found two cans of Johnson's Paste Wax.

In the paint department they had it in a can with a paint type lid. It was 1 lb. of wax.

In the cleaning fluids department they had the can I had become familiar with. Also 1 lb.

As I showed the guy in the paint dept., he asked, "Was there a price difference?" Not knowing, I went back to look. Holy Cow!! The 1 lb. can in the paint Dept. was $7.98. The old style can in the cleaning Dept. was $4.98. This sent me on another venture to see if I could tell any differences in the product other than the can. The only thing I could find was that the wax in the paint can could be buffed in 15 minutes, while the wax in the old style can said to apply a thin coat and let dry to a haze and buff. For floors, wait 30 minutes."
