518245 - Scroll Saw Hold Down Foot Assembly
I have a gray scroll saw that came with the 1980s Mark V i recently bought. I've been putting things back in order. I ordered the new style blade holder blocks for the scroll saw and I hope they will arrive tomorrow.
However . . . today I discovered that the part of the existing hold down foot that holds the air tube is cracked. Otherwise the hold down foot is okay. I'm thinking that I want to update the saw to the hold down foot that comes with the teal saw. Since I already ordered the blade holder blocks, I don't need to buy the whole upgrade package . . . just the foot assembly.
Is the "518245 - Scroll Saw Hold Down Foot Assembly" what I need to order, rather than the multiple component parts shown in the scroll saw parts diagram?
Otherwise I will try to improvise an air tube holder to attach to what I have. I won't be using the rear blade guide. Maybe I can attach the tube using the threaded hole for the rear blade guide set screw.
Thanks in advance!

Re: 518245 - Scroll Saw Hold Down Foot Assembly
BigAl,
If part number 518245 - Scroll Saw Hold Down Foot Assembly Includes all the parts reference numbers 56 through 63 it should replace the existing gray Scroll Saw assembly. I would contact Shopsmith first to confirm that. Previously there was an upgrade kit for the gray Scroll Saw that included not only the Blade Block Upgrade but also the Foot and Guard Assembly plus the clear plastic cover. That is the upgrade I did to my Scroll Saw. There is a warning in the complete upgrade instructions that in some cases the hexagonal post may not fit in some holes that the original 3/8" round post went in. It suggests filing or drilling the hole to 25/64" to allow clearance.
As I said before I have not owned a Teal Scroll Saw so I have not been able to compare all the differences between the gray and teal Scroll Saws.

Re: 518245 - Scroll Saw Hold Down Foot Assembly
Thanks for the info!
I did make a clamp plate to hold the air tube on my existing hold down foot but when I tried to reinstall the foot on the post, the foot casting cracked in a different place. It must be some pretty bad pot metal.
I just ordered the replacement assembly. Thanks for the info about possibly needing to enlarge the hole in the upper arm. I’ll be prepared.

Re: 518245 - Scroll Saw Hold Down Foot Assembly
There is an instruction sheet that came with the complete upgrade and may still come with the Blade Block Upgrade titled Scroll Saw Upgrade Kits #845409 revised 02/94. That is where the information on installing the Teal Scroll Saw Foot and Guard Assembly may require enlarging the hole on the Gray Scroll Saws came from. If it is not included with the Blade Block Upgrade and you have any questions just ask. This installation does require removing the table and reinstalling it.

Ordered the Scroll Saw Reference Literature 877087, hope it contains plenty of the other literature like the document Russ described.
The complete set of literature available is found in the Wiki: https://www.shopsmith.com/mediawiki/ind ... Literature.
Searching many of these part numbers turns up a generic link to the list of literature in the wiki. I wish these documents were available online or at least orderable and with better descriptions of the content. Some of them are available in the online documents. Others don't seem to exist even if listed:

Re: 518245 - Scroll Saw Hold Down Foot Assembly
Ed,
Some of the documents at the link you provided above can be ordered while others cannot. The first item on the list is
2004 File #
500 5/8 saw arbor 6/88
845222
It can be ordered and can be found to order by typing in the article/item number 845222 in the search bar on the main page.
Your example
6000 File #
Belt sander idle drum replacement instructions
N/A
has an N/A for the article/item number and is unfortunately not available.
For those looking for information about a certain item or subject the link Ed provided can be helpful in locating and finding documents still available from Shopsmith. Of course, not all the documents in that list are still available. Just like part numbers you may get the more recent copy instead of the earlier document you are looking for. As an example, if entering 845231 for Belt sander manual (old) 1/89 you will end up with 556075 the current Belt Sander Manual.

Re: 518245 - Scroll Saw Hold Down Foot Assembly
I can see some of them can't be ordered. However to be listed there I think they existed at one time. Now the idler drum replacement instructions may no longer be applicable and not available. Possibly even some documents have been lost. I can understand some documents might be 'trouble makers' even when applied to old versions of hardware, likely because they were incorrect or invalid in some way to begin with. And I also understand documentation is a revenue source for them with all the used machines on the market often missing documentation.
But it's in my nature to want to see them anyway. It's like leaving squares on a crossword puzzle unfilled. But not at all like all the incongruous incomplete unfilled parts of my life that I routinely ignore. They just aren't important like my curiosity over trivial matters.

'Trivial' was meant to refer to how these matters look to the uneducated populous oblivious to the importance of Shopsmith history. And my wife.
