"Greenie" Paint Specs?

Post by bucksaw »

I want to restore my Greenie to the original paint specs. I've heard that Rustoleum Hammered "Verde Green" for the green parts and "Silver" for the balance. Is this correct? The original colors on mine look more like 2 shades of green.

Also, does anyone know a source for the "Verde Green"? Can't find it in Boise.

:( I found out why Rust-oleum Hammered Verde Green (7216830 ) is so hard to get hold of. It is a discontinued product.

And I quote from the Rust-oleum people: FYI. This product is being discontinued. We do have some stock which you can get if you order before it runs out. You will have to order by case and it comes 6 in a case.

Hi,

I restored two 1954 greenies and used verde green and silver--outstanding match. You may have to look around at Home Depot and Lowes but you may find the Verde Green eventually. I live in the DC/VA area and admit it did take several trips to different Home Depot's locally to find some.

Verde Green Rustoleum is abundent here in San Diego. Lowe's, Ace Hardware, and Home Depot all have a good supply. I'll pick some up for you if you'd like and send it to you as long as you OATH to pay me back. It's $7 per can. PM your address and I'll UPS it out to you.

I attached a pic of my recent purchase. Notice what looks to be 4 colors. No idea if it's original but it sure looks it.

Thanks for the offer but I found some stock at one of the Home Depots here in Boise. I ended up with using Hammered Deep Green and Verde Green for the repaint. I bought all the stock of Verde Green that was on the shelf ( 4 cans). It's been 3 weeks and they have not restocked the color yet. I'll post a picture of the head stock when I get it back together. I'm thinking a Deep Green and Silver may look better together. We'll see what it looks like when I'm all done.

Painted parts look GREAT!! Can't wait to get mine done. I disassembled mine this past week. Picked it up last weekend.

The Verde Green looks blueish in the photo. Did the color reproduce similar to the color on the spray cans cap?

Did use use regular paint stripper on your part before painting?

p.s. How do you get you photos to show up in the message? Mine show up as links.

The photo rendering of the Verde Green is off a little. The Verde Green is actually pretty close to the Cap color. I stripped the old paint with acetone. You could probably use any paint stripper.

If you use the "Insert Image" option you will get the images to show in the text.
