Do I have a Bad Porkchop

I have parts for a speed control but I am not sure that all the parts are good. Should I be able to to totally disengage the porkchop from the worm gear at one end. Going one direction the worm
gear encounters the porkchop and is stopped. At the other end at seems like I should be able to run it right off the end of the worm gear but I cannot.

Do I have bad parts or bad thinking?

NOPE. Theteeth on the porkchop all look good. It works well until it gets to that one extreme end. Now that last tooth could be bad but I don't not know. That is why I asked.

Uninstalled, meaning no sheave to stop it, the pork chop should run off the end of the worm gear in the SLOW direction. If the teeth look good, make sure the pork chop is running true. Ideally centered on the worm gear and swinging true. Impediments to that I have experienced are bent 'legs' on the assembly and worn (oversize) holes in those legs. (Both 'problems' are addressed in the Bill Mayo headstock improvement.)

If the gear should run off the end of the worm gear - that answers my question. Mine both hang just as the last tooth should disengage.''

If you look from the side into the valleys of both the worm gear and the porkchop you can observe where the interference is occurring. A very small point contact will prevent separation of the parts. May need optical assistance to see that. ;>}
