Chisel sharpening guide owners manual needed

Post by steverboss »

Just bought a box full of woodworking tools at a garage sale today. When I got home & started going through the box I found several Shopsmith tools & accessories. One of the accessories is the 55193 Shopsmith chisel sharpening guide, but it didn’t come with any instructions. I went to Shopsmith.com but can’t find the owners manual on how to use this sharpening guide. Does anyone know where I can download the owners manual for this chisel sharpening guide?

I found some info in the Illustrated Tips section. Probably not exactly the same as a true Owner's Manual, but I have found the info in these types of Tips to be very helpful when the Owner's Manual is not readily available. I stopped looking after finding Tip #19, but there may be others.

Not exactly what I was looking for, but it’s a great start, thank you!

555193 is the kit, 555204 is the guide only. My manual (for 555204) is labeled 845108 which appears to be available ($4.95 ++) from the mothership:
https://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/ite ... tem=845108

On the positive side, it appears to include a paper template for mounting on one of three versions of extension table for use with a sanding disc.

Glad to hear that.

I finally found my copy (printed) that came with the Sharpening Guide when I bought it new from Shopsmith. I have a lot of Shopsmith Documation and it can take some looking to find things sometimes.

My copy has one of the older numbers for printed materials (PL-5108) and is not found on a search here at shopsmith.com I just did. It would be nice if Shopsmith made Guides like this available for download as a PDF here on their site. A few are but most are not. It would likely save them money in the time saved and material saved responding to an order and shipping it out. For this type of Guide/Instructions it probably costs them more than the $4.95 they typically charge to have them printed, put/kept in stock, pulled from stock to be packaged, adding a shipping label and shipped.

A pdf file in storage(fdisk/ssd/???) is quite inexpensively stored/maintained and easily distributed by internet. A small fee could be
obtained to offset the cs human resource.
