Conical Disk Sandpaper

Post by lmcadoo »

I'm new to the forum and preparing for a major woodworking project. I have a mid 70's model Mark V that was converted to a 510 in the late 80's. I have cleaned, oiled and am tuning equipment up and found that since my last project several years ago, time has taken its toll on things.

Anyone experienced or had luck reviving the self adhesive backing on the conical sandpaper? I have an unopened package that is 15 years old and the adhesive has dried out, it is somewhat tacky but not enough to adhere securely. Any suggestions if it is possible to revive this? I sure hate to waste good sandpaper, not really I'm just a tight wad.

Thank,

I would try 3M spray adhesive. It may be necessary to remove (or soften) as much of the old dried adhesive with some kind of solvent before applying the paper. Also, make sure the disk is clean of oils and dirt before applying the paper.

My paper was that old. I just made sure the disc was clean, put it in the oven for 10 minutes or so, then applied the old sandpaper.

Just this afternoon I sprayed 3M77 adhesive on the back of an old conical disk that no longer had any "stickum". It adhered to the conical plate very well.
