Get 240v 50/60 Hz motor

Also SandyJ is from New Zealand, he might be of help about the power requirements.
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

NO!! Not recommended! Absolutely not recommended! Remember, when new the Mark V comes with the headstock attached to the way tubes. This is the safest way to transport the machine, if properly crated. This way the headstock would be several inches away from all sides of the crate. It will be essentially packed in air!

If you arrange with Shopsmith for a Headstock Rebuild and you utilize the exchange program, how do the headstocks get packaged for shipment?:confused:

To be honest, I don't know! Probably pretty safely - however if he is going to ship his entire Mark V , Why make two crates? He will still have to have a 6' long crate for the rest on the machine. Also if he builds a crate to put the MkV into he will have extra room in that crate for legs, casters, etc.

Don't sea going shippers still charge on the basis of Cubic feet rather than weight?

Doing it all in one crate is an excellent suggestion and mounting the headstock on tubes suspending it within the confines of that crate is also excellent.

I can not answer your question about sea going shippers. The only time I shipped overseas, it was all taken care of for me by my most favorite uncle. Oh, that reminds me - it was all placed in one great big wooden box --- but, that's a different story..

Hi bstrong,

Another option to solve your power requirements wood be to take along a generator. That probably is knot the most cost effective solution though. :o
