seeking bandsaw

Post by Chasboy1 »

Hi Folks, I’m looking for a SS bandsaw that will work with a 1954 Mark V. Condition (to a point) not a concern.

You should include your location on a post of this type. If a member in your area has one they would likely contact you via PM.

Chasboy1,

As JPG said any Shopsmith Bandsaw made from its introduction in 1955 until now will work on your Mark 5. If the mint one on ebay is the Greenie Bandsaw it will go nicely with your 1954 Mark 5 Greenie.

If you plan on using it much, I recommend replacing the original bronze bushing upper, lower and auto-track back-up rollers which squeal due to wear and a lack of proper lubrication which is hard to maintain. This early Bandsaw, like all Shopsmith Bandsaws, can use the Backup Roller Retrofit Kit. Replacing the original metal Blade Guide Blocks would be another upgrade to consider. Do grease the upper wheel bearings prior to use as per the Owner's Manual.

The ad does not say if it comes with the manual. I have a PFD copy of the original manual, but it is too large to link here. Any Owner's Manual will work for you but newer ones with the Aluminum Table will have some differences both in parts and operations. A PDF copy of the current Owner's Manual is available at the link below from here on the Shopsmith website.
