Restoration of my SPT table - plus bonus question!

Post by Seezle »

Hey all:

I bought a SPT table complete with a 1/2 HP motor and was going to mount my 4" Magna jointer on it, but got caught up first in restoring the table. Below you can see my restoration journey of it - first time, so mistakes are evident. I'll post three-in-one pictures to move this narrative along without undue scrolling.

First a quick wash and Evaporust bath (parts elevated slightly on a few nuts). Be very careful with this step, especially when you use the Xmas wrapping container without announcement.

I stripped most of the parts down to metal with an angle grinder & stripping wheel, then sanding with 80 then 120 grit. One coat of primer and dry overnight.

Then painted - hammered black on the outside, matte black on the inside (b/c I only had 1 can of each, so alternating stretched their use).

I wire brushed each screw and considered bluing them, but instead painted a light coat of paste wax over them since I liked the shine and contrast against black. Overall, I'm happy with the results.

OK, so anyway: Some of screws were mismatched against the original slotted rounded screws, and the completionist in me wants a matching set. Is there a specific size and description of these screws I can look for?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I would look for "Pan Head" screws. I assume they are 1/4-20 x ???(3/4?)
