555287 Scroll saw parts?

Post by bhughes2172 »

Before purchasing a used (discontinued) SS 555287 20" scroll saw, I'm checking on sources for replacement parts if needed in the future.
Shopsmith tells me they have limited replacement parts.
Are there other sources for parts if the need arises?

Appreciate your time & advice.

Welcome to the forum. I don't recognize that (555287) model or part number, 555220 and 555272 are ones I know and I don't recall if the more recent teal one had a different number. Someone else here might recognize it. Part interchangeability among models is high and it looks like Shopsmith still has most parts: https://www.shopsmith.com/service/scrol ... s_list.htm
Generally items with a real price are available and those with $9.999.99 are not. There is a lively trade in used Shopsmith parts on ebay and a few sellers that seem to be in the business of parting out tools. I would not expect to find an alternate source for new parts other than bearings, blades, and similar.

Brad,

I don't recognize the model number 555287 for a Shopsmith Scroll Saw. David listed the Model Numbers for the Gray Scroll Saws. The Teal on its own stand is 555685 while the Teal Mark Mount is 555715. Is the one you are looking at Gray or Teal? The Scroll Saw is one SPT that had a number of changes made to it when it went from gray to teal. There are parts that are not interchangeable. Shopsmith will likely have more replacement parts for the teal which is the more recent Scroll Saw than they will for the gray one. There is the used market for parts but Scroll Saw parts are not as commonly available as parts for other Shopsmith tools.
