Communication error

Post by lewparsell »

I upgrade to the PowerPro 2.0 some month ago. I was ripping 45⁰ through ¾"X8' plywood to make french cleats. Now I'm getting an communication error. I have done what is said power off then restarted it and the error came back. And suggestions would be helpful.

Comm error would likely refer to the serial interface (RS-232 I think) between the controller and the front panel. Do you see any performance issues, or does the display drop out or freeze intermittently, system not respond to commands (touches), anything like that? Do you still have your Gen 1 front panel? If yes, I would suggest installing it and seeing if it eliminates the communication error as a starting point. Also check that the serial interface cable remains firmly seated. (IIRC that's the only cable going to the Display/Control.) You should be able to get warranty support from SS, at least until they can show that the new parts are not at fault.

Some early adopters have said that they had to return their machines to SS for a software upgrade. It's unclear to me what problem or symptoms this corrects. But there is another thread with version numbers. As far as I can tell this refers to software in the display/control panel only.

I don't have a Gen 2, but from the pictures of the kit it looked like it is easier to remove the Display/Control part from the headstock compared to the Gen 1. Like it is held in place by a spring clip rather than screws accessible from inside the headstock.(?) If true that should make it a little easier to work on.
