Finally starting on the restoration/rebuilding of my Great Grandfather's Model 10E SN: 10486. I will be going for a more functional rebuild since it is not a good candidate for a "museum" restoration. Most likely will replace the non-standard motor with a newer model and VFD with a single 2:1 ratio pulley arrangement. The homemade base is too far gone (dry rot) to salvage, so I'm hopeful that I can get some salvage wood from my 115-year-old workplace to build a new/old table. The damaged rail head, bent table crank, tailstock pin, and such will need replacing of course along with new bearings for good measure. Still assessing the inventory and condition of it all. Best find is where my Great Grandfather's initials were scratched into the underside of the aux table.

What is 'wrong' with the motor?? Why do you say it is 'non-standard'? They were available without any motor so the purchaser could supply their own.

lol, pardon my lack of clarity, the tail stock center has a bent pin and I will probably just hit Rockler for a new one. The current motor is a 1hp GE taken from an old IBM card reader machine by my dad in the 80s and is pretty tired. The pulley on the motor is a 4-step as well. I really like the idea of simply dialing in the rpms with the VFD.
A nice piece of family history. Besides the need for a replacement Table Riser Crank you should start looking for a replacement Way Tube Tie Bar too. Yours is cracked through the set screw hole on one side. When reassembling on the new/old wood table the Headrest should be set closer to the Base end to have the Way Tubes protrude past the Tie Bar as the Tubes do on the other end through the Base & Arm Assembly to mount the Tailstock/Extension Table on. Do use care disassembling your Model 10E and the Jig Saw. Some parts are harder to find if replacements are needed. The Table Riser Crank and the Way Tube Tie Bar are relatively easy to find.
Having the initials in the wood board of the extension table makes it more personal so I would not recommend replacing the board but would recommend rotating it around 180 degrees to mount it correctly. The mounting bracket and fence post holes should be on the far side from the Headstock and should be positioned like the one below.
