eBay Buyer’s beware ogre68

This week I purchased a 1/4” mortising bit on eBay from ogre68 (I’ll withhold for now his real name, address, and messages). This item pictured on eBay was not the item received and upon contacting, he acknowledges sending the wrong item and would check his trailer for the right one. After several emails inquiring a status & update, no responses were received, I was ghosted.

I have started the return & refund process with eBay and hopefully get resolution and I’ll update the progress.

Just wanted to give a heads up on ogre68, with is unfortunate because I believe I’ve bought from him before with no issues.

Sorry this happened. eBay is VERY buyer friendly, so you should have NO problem getting your money back. Also, know that most credit cards have disputes you can file with them on purchases for a variety of reasons. I have had to do this a few times on purchases where I didn't receive what I ordered and/or for fraud. They have always had my back and it is just requires filling out a form and/or calling them. My credit card company always credited me the purchase amount back while they went off and fought the offending seller in every case. You may want to pursue or investigate both for resolution of this issue. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips & support. I was going to wait on the Credit Card process, but will take your suggestion and start it now. eBay allows 7 days for a response before I can proceed. It’s not the money with me it’s the principle, just be honest about things. It really seems like it’s getting worse, scams, bait & switches, etc. more and more of it. It’s really too bad it has to come down to this. As stated, I believe I’ve purchased items from him in the past with no issues. I was also very respectful in my communication with him, but unfortunately received nothing back. Knowing that he sells a lot of Shopsmith stuff, I wanted to let everyone here know of my experience and maybe save others some aggravation

Not an excuse, but it has occurred to me that often e-bay sellers use an existing picture rather than taking and posting one of the current item.

Sloppy and leads to this scenario.

That and using a SS catalog pix!!!

Just curious, how much $? Ignoring the rust it appears quite usable.

$26 and change shipped, bit was heated, burned and discolored. Could & should have bought new for $34.95, & now with free shipping would have been well worth it.

Lesson learned.

I have purchased from ogre68 in the past without issue. Sorry, this happened to you but do have him or eBay make it right. I don't recall if it was ogre68 or another seller that I bought a Handle Assembly lock for the bench ends of a Greenie I was restoring. The wrong (later version) arrived and the seller made it right by sending the correct (early version) to me. I still have the later version one in my spare parts. The seller ogre68 has been around for a long time and it would be in his best interest to make it right. The same is true for any seller of used Shopsmith items or any items for that matter.

I have said this before but is a good reminder that when dealing with online sales it is the buyer beware. Not all sellers even know what a Shopsmith is and/or have no clue what the parts may be. That being said I have found that ogre68 does know Shopsmith parts based on his listings. This may have been a simple error sending the wrong part from the many Shopsmith items he sells. I am not trying to defend ogre68 here but am trying to present a neutral point of view.

One way or another you should be made whole again be it a refund or the correct item sent to you.

Another word of caution is buying used things like drill bits, saw blades, etc. as conditions can vary greatly. These kinds of items, in my opinion, are best purchased new.

Agreed Russ, I to have bought items from him without issue and really did attempt to work it out with him (see emails attached). But NOS should be just that, old but new, not used and abused. As I said earlier it’s not the money at this point, it’s the principle. Whether I’m made whole is secondary to me at this point, my hope is that nobody else here gets burned, and maybe this will hurt sales a little bit. Again I’ve learned a lesson in today’s changed world (and not for the better)

Well the tubes look the same.

I speculate that he had more than one and simply sent you the wrong one. Also perhaps the pristine(almost) one went to someone else.

I agree he at least needs to acknowledge the error and provide a satisfactory solution.

The price and the 96% rating steered me to another seller.

I did receive a response from ogre68, and we hopefully on a road of resolution.

I totally understand Dave that mistakes happen. What I don’t understand or appreciate is the total ghosting and ignoring communication about it. I respectfully attempted, unsuccessfully to resolve it with you and was put into the uncomfortable position of being forced into filing this with eBay for resolution. I am more than willing to drop the case, as soon I I receive the correct item that I purchased from you. Steve
