PowerPro lock code question

I assume in order to reset the passcode, one needs to enter the current one.

Would be nice to know of any back door. A system reset may free it up.(I hope there is one!)

Assumption seems correct. The instructions state that you can turn the LOCK feature off as long as you remember the password you have set.

I don't think there is a user accessible system reset, other than a power cycle, and there is no mention of one in the manual. I saw no mention of a backdoor for the password but I suspect there is one.

Page SM21 of the PP manual states that the factory code is 0000. If it shows that it is locked try that first.

The OP hasn't said there is an actual problem. I think it was a worry, like if he ever engaged the lock he didn't know the code to unlock. He didn't have a manual, so I think he did not understand that if it had a lock code it would lock on every power cycle and it would not be usable without the password. '0000' is the default but is called the unlocked code, meaning the PP won't ask you for a password. I think this is what most of us are using. I don't think the OP's machine was ever locked unless he says otherwise.

I think there is still a good question here, 'is there a way to get it unlocked if it is locked and I don't have the code?'

Now if you had a powerpro stolen would you want it to be as easy as reading here how to get it to work?

I too have to believe there is a method of doing a reset, might be a timed button push type deal or holding a button when you power it on or maybe even something behind the cover???

There is a way to reset it but I do not recall how it is done. I would have to do some checking. As Ed said it is probably not something we would want posted here. Shopsmith thefts happen like any other items. My Mark V 520 which I was given to me from my father-in-law was a replacement for the one he original purchased that was stolen. So lets not make it easy for the bad guys. Of course this only matters if a lock code is set. I do not use a lock code as it appears many of you do not either. If I needed to I would pull the red safety key to keep little fingers from turning it on. That is not an option for those with an "A" or "B" Headstock upgrade to the Power Pro.

OH yeah.

I installed the PP2 option to a functioning PP1. It started up and used it for couple of hours. I turned it OFF using its 510 Toggle switch.

When I came back 16 hours later, I can't get past the signin screen. I thought that I had avoided entering a password, by avoiding requests to enter one before proceeding with a pen mandrel sanding session.

Starting up today, I can't get past the password screen, even trying the default startup password.

I had to use the upgraded 510, because the quill bearing in a 500 Gold headstock is tearing up. I'll try pulling the quill on the 500 Gold headstock and proceed. I still need a solution to get past the password, problem.

Unfortunately 'security' is needed these days, but at least we can NOT engage a lock when it is redundant. I feel the same ability needs to be available for pass codes. Total removal of a lock is a better idea. Now extrapolate that to pass codes.
