Give away old shopsmith

Post by wjames »

Several years ago a friend's husband died and she asked if I would take care of her husbands Shopsmith. It is the old 3/4 hp model that her husband's father owned. I am now in that stage of life where I need to down size and would like to give this tool to organization/someone that might be interested. It is functional and I really do not want to throw it out even if it is a relic.

Any suggestion of organizations or individuals that might be interested. I will be asking Goodwill but they were not interested in my sears radial table saw so don't have much hope for the Shopsmith. I am in the Annapolis MD area.

Thanks for any help

This is not the place to be selling Shopsmith's. That being said advertise it locally. There is a demand for these tools going back to even the original Shopsmith 5 in 1 Tool the Model 10E first made in 1947. I am guessing by what little you said it is an early Mark 5 from the 1950's. Those were painted green/silver followed by gold/copper paint. Parts for Mark 5/V's are still available today for purchase here on the Shopsmith website. So even though it may be old it can be kept in top running shape. It can even be upgraded to newer features.

I can well understand Goodwill not being receptive to a RAS(radial table???).

Nobody else seems to want them either. My brother and i inherited my dad's Craftsman radial arm saw. Nice one with a cabinet and electronic height control and stuff. Couldn't give it away. I've used them before, never liked it. Everything works upside down and backwards.
