Were retractable casters an option?

...that the machine is shown with everything that would have come with it plus lathe chisels and retractable casters. Does that mean that back in the day the casters were not standard equipment? If that's the case, then that might explain why my Greenie is wearing Goldie casters. The owner probably added them to the machine after the fact.

As I remember when I bought my 510 from Woodcraft in 1994 there were accessory packages. I think the castors was one of them.

The casters on my 1956 Greenie are unpainted.

The other SS Mark V's are painted with the speckled paint on the Aluminum pieces.

This makes me think this was an option that was installed by the Original owner on this machine.

"Back in the day of Mark 5's" the casters were indeed an add on accessory - I went without them for over 4 decades.

I believe the Retractable Castors have always been an option. As John said accessory packages are available that include them. Buyers commonly purchase these. At times I believe they have been included in promotions with the purchase of a Mark tool just like they sometimes include an SPT.

That refreshed my memory. When I bought my 510 the promotion was a free SPT and free castors. I got the jointer free and also bought the band saw at the time.

Actually I did not feel the need for casters until AFTER 40 yrs. Must have somehow gotten weaker?

Still living example here. Oh And I still can raise lower the headstock while in vertical position.( not so easy anymore!)
