DIY PowerPro Upgrade Kit SKU: 557002

Post by Ruston »

I was wondering if anyone had issues with getting the DYI Power Pro upgrade kit. I purchased the kit two months ago and still have not received it. Every time I contact customer service, they say they are waiting for a bushing and say they are due next week but so far nothing. Has anyone else had this issue? Just seems like a ridiculous amount of time to be waiting for a part. Not only that my Mark v is down with burnt up motor so that is why I ordered the kit.

Thanks,

Jeff,

Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum.

I have had orders take months to arrive because parts were on order from suppliers. I haven't had your specific delay of the DYI Power Pro Upgrade. If they cannot provide all the parts needed for the Power Pro Upgrade or the 1.0 to 2.0 Upgrade, I don't know how they could be making new Mark 7 Shopsmith's either. I wonder if the part they are waiting on is the Eccentric Bushing part number 5041909 or the Quill Feed Sleeve part number 501318.

Was your order only for the DYI Power Pro Upgrade or did it include other accessories or parts. Sometimes an order is delayed because one item is out of stock but contacting Customer Service can get the remainder of the order sent separately right away. I have done this in the past.

Thanks for the reply. It is the eccentric bushing that is MIA. Hopefully it will show up soon

Due to the changes to the Eccentric Bushing over the years a new one is included with the new Idler Shaft Assembly in the upgrade kit. Some of the older Eccentric Bushings will not work with the newer Idler Shaft Bearing arrangement.

All of those eccentrics that do not have the 'split' feature. But the spit eccentric, IIUC, has been around much longer than the 'new' (non- water pump bearing) Idler shaft bearings.

The 'old' SS web site had a very clear explanation of this with pictures. I can't find that now on the new web site. In essence the split eccentric will work on any Idler but the new Idler bearings require it. All PowerPros require a split eccentric because all PowerPro Idlers lack the sealed water pump bearing.

If the OP has an eccentric with the split, my advice would be to ask SS to ship your kit short this part unless the have a good ship date.

For reference the picture below shows the main difference between the new and old Idler Shafts and Bearing(s).

The Eccentrics below show the new/current split type and one of the old type Eccentrics.

There have been some variations to the Eccentrics over the years.

Thanks for all the info. My kit showed up on my doorstep Yesterday afternoon. I was very surprised. Looked over the instructions and dove in. Got it updated and running today.
Very well written instructions and now a lot better machine.
