Raising the blade??

Ok it is going to be real obvious that I am new to this ShopSmith 510, but am enjoying most of it.
Current question or challenge I am facing is raising the table saw blade. When I try to raise the blade by lowering the table, the dust collection shroud on the saw blade runs into part of the table, specifically where you calibrate to keep the table at a 90 degree angle.

So I can only place the blade about 1 inch above the table. I am trying to move slowly, watching videos etc., and realized I needed a cross cut sled, which I purchased, but it adds to the height of the table, and I can't get the blade up high enough to cut 3/4" plywood.

Welcome! I have a 510 as well.

The lower guard has adjustments to open it up or close it up. Close it all the way, lower the table, then open it back up as much as you're able.

If that doesn't work, another possibility is the spring-loaded part of the lower saw guard to the left of the blade. It should move up and down with the table, but sometimes binds. In my experience that is due to dirt or corrosion on one or both rods underneath the springs. Cleaning the rods up and waxing them works best for me. It's also best if the rods are reasonably close to vertical.

As HopefulSSer suggested loosening the two knurled nuts as indicated by the black arrows in the picture below to move the outer part of the Lower Guard inward. The Guard shown is in the narrower width position. This will help clear the part of the Lower Guard system attached to the Table itself.

As David suggested making sure the rods with springs move freely up and down which are indicated by the red arrows.

Do make sure when attaching the Lower Guard to the Quill that it is level to the Table. That will help keep the part that raises and lowers with the table from having the rods bind.

I may very well have an older dust collector system, as I purchased the unit used, and it had a number of different parts, missing and partially present.

1) loosen the knurled nuts indicated by the black arrows. position the sliding portion of the lower guard so as to make it narrower.

2) that should allow the lower guard to NOT interfere with the dust shroud it is currently sliding on as shown in your last pix.

3) WHY is the quill extended as shown in your first pix? Do you have the carriage all the way against the headstock (by way of the short rubber spacer(that missing?).

4) I am suspicious you have the sanding disk lower dust cover, not the lower saw guard.

The quill is at its present position to reach the center of the table where it slides up through the blade "cover" (wrong name, but can't remember it right now.
jim I really appreciate all the questions! I have a lot to learn!
I really need some good suggestions on conditioning waxing, cleaning the machine, it need TLC!!!

IF the carriage is pushed all the way to the headstock/spacer, The saw blade will be centered in the blade slot(assuming the correct blade arbor is being used). Yours appears to be the correct arbor for a Mark 5.
