band saw pulley

I have a mark 5, today is the first time I've tried the band saw, it turned for a few seconds then stopped, there is a belt that goes around the band saw pulley, for traction I'm assuming. It had broke. What do I call this & where can I get another one? Thanks, first post.

They are called 'band saw tires'. There are at least two different types, urethane and rubber. Urethane tires stretch over the wheel and don't need an adhesive to hold them. Rubber tires usually require an adhesive to hold them on. On smaller wheels I've used a single layer of rubber cement to hold rubber tires on.

I have not purchased the bandsaw tires from him yet.
I have bought belts for the Mark V headstock and spoke with him on the phone about other stuff.

Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum.

What you are describing are the Wheels of the Bandsaw and the Tires that go on the Wheels for traction. As for which tires are best there are varying opinions. New from the factory Shopsmith Bandsaws come with Rubber Tires. They are glued on tires. Shopsmith also sells Urethane Tires, which are bright orange, that do not require glue. The link GetterDone provided are another option for Urethane Tires called the Blue Max Tires. It is these two Urethane tires and the rubber tires that spark the debate as to which is better. The consensus seems to be the Bleu Max Urethane Tires are a better choice for the Urethane Tires. Users of the Orange Shopsmith Urethane Tires report slipping or tires coming off the Wheels. I have used the Blue Max on one Bandsaw which worked fine. I have a set of the Shopsmith Orange Urethane Tires but have not used them because of the reported problems in other discussions. I do use the original Rubber, glued on, Tires on my Bandsaws. I have them on my primary Bandsaw and most of the ones I have restored and own. Rubber Tires are my preference but are a bit more involved in installing them.

The Shopsmith Rubber Tires with contact cement are at the link below from here on the Shopsmith website catalog. There is enough cement for two tires. I buy 1 with cement and 1 without cement from the second link to replace both tires.
