Parts for Shopsmith in Ontario Canada

Post by DJ2024 »

Hi, I own a shopsmith mark V and the dealer here has closed. Does anyone know where I can get parts in Ontario Canada.

Thank you in advance.

DJ2024,

First welcome to the Shopsmith Forum.

I don't know of any outlets in Canada. Shopsmith is under new ownership and may be willing to ship to Canada now if they don't have an outlet in Canada any longer. Contact Customer Service to see if that is possible. Another possibility would be if you know anyone who lives across the border in the US, they may let you ship it to them. Customs at the border would apply.

The other option would be to buy "used" parts on sites like eBay. Not all parts for sale there are actually used. I have purchased used parts on eBay from a Canadian seller and everything went smoothly with the sale and shipping it to me.

I hope you can find a workable solution. If you do post about it here for others who may be in the same situation.

A while back I sent a 10ER knob to a forum member in western Canada and it was a very simple matter with the necessary documentation obtained at my local PO when I mailed it.

Nice!

I sent a email (unread so far) to the individual that was looking for the rulers that went on the adjustable stops offering to ship them to him if he ordered them. Must have used the suggested workaround.

That’s what is so GREAT about this forum. Everyone willing to help out others…. Always appreciated….

If you lived in far northern Maine you could have simply tossed it to him at a prearranged time/place. ;)

I recently dealt with this problem by using a cross-border shopping service. I used Shippsy (shippsy.com), but there are others (google 'cross-border shopping'). They give you a US address for a US vendor to ship to, they receive a package at the US address, and import it for you to pick up in Canada. I chose Shippsy partly because they have no monthly fees (some do) and because on receiving my order in Ontario, they would then mail it to me (not all will).

The overall cost was not really very expensive, all things considered, apart from the awful Canada/US exchange rate. My parts came to about 180 USD, which became 267 CDN. Tax and duties were about $40 (not much more than HST would have been). Shippsy's own handling fee was $8, and shipping to me in northern Ontario was $10.

For what it's worth, Shippsy seemed organized and professional. At one point, there was a technical problem with uploading my receipt to their website, and their tech people were responsive without much delay, and followed up.

From placing my order with Shopsmith to my parts landing on my doorstep was 19 days. All in all, a satisfactory experience.

In Canada I have purchased parts at All-In_One Wood Tools, located in Oakville, Ontario. Their web site is https://allin1wood.com/. Recently, in March, 2025 I wanted to buy a replacement rubber drum sleeve for my 2 1/4" drum. It looks like All-In-One have closed their store in Oakville, and the web site says they are now operating on-line, unitl they find new premises. I have emailed them twice, and phoned once. No response to the emails, and there was no voicemail for the phone.

I have contacted Shopsmith's customer service. I sent them screen shots of All-In-One''s web site. Hopefully they will respond on how they plan to support their Canadian customers.

Meanwhile, I will explore Dave's solution. I had a similar problem with parts for a Jet surface planer. Jet won't ship to Canada. I ordered from a US company that would buy the parts from Jet, and then ship to Canada

All-In-One Wood Tools used to be a good spot, but they're mostly online now. Might be worth reaching out to Shopsmith directly too to see if they’ll ship to Canada.
